Come and volunteer with us
Without our 50 volunteers, Good Neighbours would be unable to operate.
Our volunteers offer companionship through 1-2-1 befriending, telephone support, advocacy and help with form filling, short term shopping and introduce clients to social activities in their area.
A team of volunteers welcome clients to our Falls Prevention exercise classes and support the clients who attend. Having a fall can lead to social isolation and our volunteers are vital in increasing the confidence of our clients to keep them independent and active.
For clients who are unable to access public transport we have drivers who accompany them to medical appointments. Our volunteers also accompany clients to a variety of other appointments to provide a listening ear.
You don’t need any special skills, just the ability to care, the desire to help and a willingnesss to work under the guidance of our team and within the ethos of the charity.
Our volunteers offer anything from 30 minutes a month to 5 hours a week depending on what is convenient for them and what our clients need.
All volunteers are insured, receive regular training, attend team building meetings and are supervised. We cover any expenses incurred.
We recruit from the local community and, before joining us, volunteers are interviewed, have their references taken up, undergo training and are checked through the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Our team spans several generations as everyone has different gifts to share, but many are “active” people over retirement age whose volunteering improves their own wellbeing.
Together we can make a difference!
