It is with great sadness that the Trustees of Good Neighbours announce that it has formally ceased
providing Falls Prevention services to the older people in our local community with effect from 15 July
2020 due to the impact of Covid 19 virus. The Good Neighbours’ Befriending service will continue under
the management of Elizabeth Hills, and hopefully be expanded in the coming months to meet the
changing and increasing needs of older people in our area.
Falls Prevention has been part of Good Neighbours for several years and has been grown and extremely
well managed by Sarah Warren from its early days. Given the fact that our Falls Prevention clients consist
almost entirely of vulnerable adults, and as such would be highly susceptible to COVID 19, it was felt that
we could not expose them to the unacceptable risks of the Charity staff or volunteers infecting them.
Having given due consideration to the circumstances, and taken expert advice, the Trustees took the
decision to cease all physical contact with clients and all Falls Prevention Support. It is also the Trustees’
view that it is unlikely these classes can safely resume in the foreseeable future.
Having initially furloughed the team whilst the implications for the service were investigated, it was
reluctantly decided that we would need to make some of our excellent team redundant, as with no service
offering we would not be able to attract funding for this part of our work. Therefore, with effect from the
end of this month, Jonathan, Sarah, Rose, and Jenny will be leaving, and we thank them for all their hard
work and loving service.
With regard to the clients of the Falls Prevention classes, we have and will continue to maintain telephone
contact through our team of Befriending Volunteers as appropriate. We also will maintain contact on a
regular basis through appropriate correspondence. We will continue to do this until such time as the
position improves and we are able to resume social contact. In the meantime, we value and very much
rely on the continued support and prayers of the friends and volunteer team of Good Neighbours.
